Roger McGough, poet, playwright, children’s writer and broadcaster, was awarded an OBE for services to poetry in 1997 and a CBE in 2004. He is the President of the Poetry Society. McGough has written over 50 books; his latest poetry collection is As Far as I Know (Penguin, 2013). The Mersey Sound (Penguin, 1967), the anthology that established McGough, Adrian Henri and Brian Patten as the ‘Liverpool Poets’, has sold over a million copies and has never been out of print. His numerous books for children include The Imaginary Menagerie (Frances Lincoln), which he also illustrated. He has twice won the Signal Award for best children’s book. He is an Honorary Fellow of Liverpool John Moores University and an Honorary Professor at Thames Valley University. He has an MA from the University of Northampton and D.Litts from the universities of Hull, Liverpool & Roehampton. He presents Poetry Please on BBC Radio 4.
