Janet Sutherland studied at Cardiff and Essex Universities, and has an MA in American Poetry. She works as a poet, editor and freelance workshop provider and mentor. Her poems have appeared in magazines including The Poetry Review, The New Statesman, The Rialto, The Spectator, Poetry Ireland Review and The London Magazine, and are widely anthologised, from The Virago Book of Love Poetry to The New British Poetry 1968-88 (Paladin). She is a co-founder of the Needlewriters cooperative which organises quarterly poetry events in Lewes, East Sussex. She won the Kent and Sussex Poetry Competition in 2017 and received a Hawthornden Fellowship in 2018.
She has published three collections with Shearsman: Bone Monkey (2014), Hangman’s Acre (2009) and Burning the Heartwood (2006). A new collection, Home Farm, is published by Shearsman in 2019. janetsutherland.co.uk
