The American poet, novelist, and short story writer Fanny Howe was born in Buffalo, New York in 1940. Her poetry collections include Gone (2003), On the Ground (2004) and Come and See (2011). Her most recent poetry collection, Second Childhood (2014), was a finalist for the National Book Award. In 2001 and 2005, Howe was shortlisted for the Griffin Poetry Prize and in 2008 she won an Award in Literature from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters. She was awarded the Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize in 2009.
