About this poem

The Poetry Society, in association with the Royal Collection Trust, commissioned a new poem from Jen Hadfield in 2016, to be inspired by the exhibitions Scottish Artists 1750-1900 and Maria Merian’s Butterflies, showing at The Queen’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace, London. The poem was premiered at an event held at the gallery on 26 May 2016.

Jen Hadfield

Jen Hadfield has published three collections of poetry. Her first,Almanacs, won an Eric Gregory Award, and her second, Nigh-No-Place,  the 2008 T. S. Eliot Prize. She has family in Canada and England and lives in Shetland. Her third collection, Byssus, was published by Picador in 2014.
