your house and its town eyes

saw grain until it saw a beach
far away, a sun that failed to shine

through their shaking slats of hair
swilling red and black and soft

who dares live under yellow and pink
who lives limb to limb with dark houses?

to the mountain and the mountain
your body is one flat falling vein

to a clot of cold sea, shadow town
left red in its naked gums

expect the bloodless silence
that scared the dogs away
expect no children on the winking street
no leaping through the gaps in its eyelashes

limb from limb
and the birds too, are over.
