I fall in love about seven times a day

by Dale Booton

if falling in love means wanting to
leave a part of yourself
inside another    like a memento for them to
look back on once we have moved on
to the next    for them to cherish
the way I have cherished them    in that
small moment of my life    now a distant
memory at the forefront of my mind
that I take to grasping in the
cold of the dark night    allow it to warm me
as I guide the quilt around
my body    a pillow the near-shamble silhouette
of an imagined person I can snuggle
with    allowing them the
soft delicacies of
intimacy     without having to ask them to stay
