Patrick McGuinness was born in Tunisia in 1968 and is now Professor of French and Comparative Literature at the University of Oxford, where he is a Fellow of St Anne’s College. He is the author of two collections of poems, published by Carcanet, a novel and several academic books about French literature and modern poetry. In 2009 he was made ‘Chevalier des Palmes académiques’ for services to French culture, and in 2011 ‘Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres’.
