Michael Shann

Originally from Yorkshire, Michael has lived in London since 1998 and is a member of the Forest Poets Stanza in Walthamstow. He has had one pamphlet and two collections of poetry published by the Paekakariki Press: Euphrasy (2012), Walthamstow (2015) and To London (2017).

Michael was longlisted in the 2017 National Poetry Competition and his poem ‘Ice-cream for breakfast’ was recently highly commended in the YorkMix.com Poems for Children Competition 2019. As well as appearing in numerous poetry anthologies and magazines, his poems have also been published in the Arsenal fanzine The Gooner and the World Championship Snooker Championships programme (www.michaelshann.com).

Michael works for the charity Carers UK where he established an annual creative writing competition in 2014. He has edited five anthologies of the winning, commended and selected poems and stories from the competition, and coordinated three celebration events (including a Poem-a-thon during Carers Week 2018). Since 2014, he has also organised an annual poetry and music festival at the Greenway Community Garden in Walthamstow.
