Medbh McGuckian

Medbh McGuckian is a poet from Northern Ireland whose poem ‘The Flitting’ won first prize in the 1979 National Poetry Competition. Her first published poems appeared in two pamphlets published in 1980, the year in which she received an Eric Gregory Award. She went on to publish many collections including The Flower Master (1982) which won both the Alice Hunt Barlett Prize and a Rooney Prize for Irish Literature, and On Ballycastle Beach (1988) which won her the 1989 Cheltenham Prize.
