Mary Jean Chan is a poet, editor and academic from Hong Kong. She is currently a PhD candidate in Creative Writing, Research Associate in Poetics and Visiting Lecturer at Royal Holloway, University of London. Her pamphlet, A Hurry of English, is published by ignitionpress (2018), with a selection of work forthcoming in Carcanet’s New Poetries VII, and a collection forthcoming from Faber in 2019. She was placed second in The Poetry Society’s National Poetry Competition 2017 with her poem ‘The Window’. She is the winner of the 2017 Anne Born Prize, the 2017 Psychoanalysis and Poetry Competition, and the 2016 Oxford Brookes International Poetry Competition (ESL), and she was shortlisted for the 2017 Forward Prize for Best Single Poem. She is a Ledbury Emerging Poetry Critic and is co-editor of Oxford Poetry.
