Janet Lancaster joined The Poetry Society on the recommendation of Roger McGough way back in the 90s, when on an Arvon course at Totleigh Barton. Janet originates from south Wales, but her home is in Rutland. She is a regular member of the South Leicestershire Stanza led by Charles Lauder. Her poem ‘7 Pregnant Silences’ was commended in the 2016 Stanza Competition.
Janet has an MA in Creative Writing (Poetry) from Manchester Metropolitan University. Her poems have appeared in various anthologies, including two published by OWF Press. Janet loves to be in the company of fellow poets – reading contemporary published poetry, sharing drafts of new poems and offering mutual encouragement. Recently she has also taken up target archery. She feels that sending out poems bears a certain similarity to this sport: she quotes from Philip Larkin – ‘like an arrow shower, sent out of sight, somewhere becoming rain.’
