Postcard Poem about Knossos, Crete (Home of the Minotaur)

by Emma Yeo

Dear Reader

As I am sure you are aware
A hot summer here is truly rare
So allow me to show you
A more favourable view…
The sea a shade of turquoise
Sand a murky grey
Silent except for angry ones
Of cicadas as they yell for attention
Whitewashed houses contrast
The bright blue of the sky and
Tourists cases pulled in the dirt
To their hotel.

All summer pure beauty
in winter like bees and flowers

the beauty dies
locals try to thrive.
